2027About CILIA
The International Conference on Cilia & Flagella Research · March 8–12, 2027Cilia2027 will be the seventh edition of the biennial European Cilia Conference, bringing together scientists, clinicians, and patient representatives to discuss the latest advances in cilia and flagella biology. The meeting continues a successful series initiated in London (2012), followed by Paris (2014), Amsterdam (2016), Copenhagen (2018), Cologne (2022), and Dublin (2024).
A conference series with a proud tradition of scientific excellence across Europe.

Over the past two decades, discoveries in cilia biology have transformed our understanding of their roles in cell signalling, development, tissue homeostasis, and disease. Cilia are microtubule-based organelles present on most human cells, functioning either as motile structures driving fluid flow or as sensory organelles coordinating key developmental and physiological pathways. Their dysfunction leads to a diverse group of inherited disorders known as ciliopathies, highlighting the strong link between fundamental research and clinical medicine.
Cilia2027 will further strengthen the interface between basic cilia biology and the clinical aspects of ciliopathies. The meeting will be preceded by dedicated pre-meetings that bring together patient organizations, clinicians, and scientists, including a Translational Symposium focused on bridging fundamental discoveries with patient benefit. In parallel, early-career researchers will organize a meeting designed by and for young investigators and students.
The main conference programme will address fundamental questions in cilia biology, emerging roles of cilia in fields such as metabolism and cancer, and technological advances including cryo-electron microscopy and advanced proteomics. The meeting will feature keynote lectures, invited speakers, selected oral and flash presentations from submitted abstracts, and extensive poster sessions designed to foster discussion and collaboration.
Scientific Sessions
The conference will cover a range of topics in cilia and ciliopathy research, including:
Tissue-specific ciliary functions Therapies for ciliopathies Centrosomes and cilia Cilia assembly and disassembly Cilia signalling Lower model organisms for cilia studies Structure of cilia ilia and metabolism Multi-ciliated systems Modelling the ciliopathies Late-breaking discoveries Patient–scientist exchange
